\"\"<\/a>Six months ago<\/a>, at the dawn of the lockout-delayed 2022 baseball season, I made my annual predictions as to who would win what.\u00a0 With the regular season coming to an end today, it is time revisit those predictions and see what, if anything, I got right.<\/p>\n

American League<\/h3>\n

East<\/strong>: Blue Jays<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Well, that’s one down.\u00a0 The Yankees have owned the division pretty much from day one.<\/p>\n

Central<\/strong>: White Sox<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

After running away with the Central Division in 2021, the White Sox were a consensus pick to repeat.\u00a0 Unfortunately, the baseball gods had other ideas.\u00a0 While the White Sox struggled all year to put things together, the Guardians hung around long enough to get really hot in September and run away with the division.<\/p>\n

West<\/strong>: Astros<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Hey, here’s one I got right.\u00a0 The Astros once again find themselves at the top of the division, winning their fifth title in six years.<\/p>\n

Wild Cards:<\/strong> Yankees, Angels, Red Sox<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The AL East was particularly strong this year, as both the Blue Jays and the Rays make it to the expanded Wild Card round.\u00a0 Rounding things out are the Mariners, who make the postseason for the first time since 2001 after missing out on the final day of the season last year.<\/p>\n

AL Champion:<\/strong>\u00a0Yankees<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Yankees have struggled in the second half, so they aren’t the locks they looked like early in the year.\u00a0 At this point, you have to assume the Astros are the team to beat.<\/p>\n

Cy Young:<\/b> Lucas Giolito<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

That seems very unlikely.\u00a0 Justin Verlander seems like the popular choice, with Dylan Cease and Shohei Ohtani likely to also get support.<\/p>\n

MVP:<\/strong> Vladimir Guerrero Jr.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Aaron Judge already has his name engraved on this award.<\/p>\n

National\u00a0League<\/h3>\n

<\/p>\n

East<\/strong>: Braves<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Another one I got right, as the Braves take home their fifth straight NL East crown.<\/p>\n

Central<\/strong>: Cardinals<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Cardinals win their first division title since 2019.<\/p>\n

West<\/strong>: Dodgers<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Dodgers take home their ninth division title in the past ten years, with no signs of slowing down.<\/p>\n

Wild Cards:<\/strong> Padres, Mets, Phillies<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Wow, I am officially perfect in my National League predictions.\u00a0 I don’t think this has ever happened before.<\/p>\n

NL Champion:<\/strong>\u00a0Dodgers<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Sure, why not.<\/p>\n

Cy Young:<\/strong> Walker Buehler<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Injuries have made this extremely unlikely.\u00a0 Braves starter Kyle Wright looks like the pick here.<\/p>\n

MVP:<\/strong> Mookie Betts<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Paul Goldschmidt seems to be the odds-on favorite here.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
