{"id":18479,"date":"2022-02-15T01:28:18","date_gmt":"2022-02-15T07:28:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/?p=18479"},"modified":"2022-01-28T14:39:05","modified_gmt":"2022-01-28T20:39:05","slug":"remember-when-there-was-a-10000-step-club","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2022\/02\/remember-when-there-was-a-10000-step-club\/","title":{"rendered":"Remember When There Was A 10,000 Step Club?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Things were a lot different two\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2020\/02\/the-10000-step-club-2020-edition\/\">years<\/a>\u00a0ago, as I was finishing up my fifth year using a Fitbit.\u00a0 I had just added 45 new 10,000 step days, my 3rd best year to date, and, with upcoming trips to Boston and California already on the docket, things were looking good to add a good number more and add some new tales to this list of my top 25 step days.\u00a0 Then, the corona virus happened, and the world basically shut down for the next two years.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve worked from home since March of 2020, which gives me a lot more free time, but also significantly cut down on my natural daily step totals.\u00a0 All told, I managed only 5 10,000 step days for the just completed seventh year of Fitbit usage, which, granted, is better than last year and gives me a total of 270 since I started keeping track back in 2011.\u00a0 With that in mind, here&#8217;s the list of my top 25 step days, which has stayed static for two years now.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/mountain2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14028\" src=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/mountain2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"648\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/mountain2.jpg 648w, http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/mountain2-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/mountain2-600x400.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 648px) 100vw, 648px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/19-05.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-14331\" src=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/19-05-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>1: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2018\/04\/fb4-week-11\/\">4\/14\/2018<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; 27,470 steps<\/p>\n<p>My best single day total is from my April 2017 trip to New York to see Angelina.\u00a0 The day&#8217;s excursions included\u00a0trips to the 9\/11 Memorial &amp; Museum, the Museum of the City of New York, Central Park, the Guggenheim museum, and the Empire State Building.<\/p>\n<p>2: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2018\/07\/fb4-week-25\/\">7\/21\/2018<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; 27,278 steps<\/p>\n<p>My July 2017 trip to Virginia, <span style=\"display: inline !important; float: none; background-color: #ffffff; color: #333333; cursor: text; font-family: 'Source Sans Pro','Helvetica Neue',Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 20px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;\">to hike up\u00a0Catawba Mountain to McAfee Knob with Jeff and Val<\/span>, fell just short of the top spot.<\/p>\n<p>3: <a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 48\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/gfy2-week-48\/\">6\/6\/2013<\/a> &#8211; 24,988 steps<\/p>\n<p>2013&#8217;s trip to Disney World, which spent <span style=\"display: inline !important; float: none; background-color: #ffffff; color: #333333; cursor: text; font-family: 'Source Sans Pro','Helvetica Neue',Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 20px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px;\">5 years as my single day best, included<\/span> excursions to both Epcot Center and the Magic Kingdom, and yes, falling 12 steps short of 25,000 still irks me.<\/p>\n<p>4: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2019\/06\/fitbit-v-week-19\/\">6\/3\/2019<\/a> &#8211; 24,665 steps<\/p>\n<p>The first full day of 2019&#8217;s summer trip to Washington DC spent most of the day at the Smithsonian Zoo.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/seals.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-15445\" src=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/seals-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>5: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2019\/08\/fitbit-v-week-28\/\">8\/8\/2019<\/a> &#8211; 23,866 steps<\/p>\n<p>Late in the summer of 2019, I spent two weeks in San Francisco for a work trip.\u00a0 \u00a0On my last full day, I went out after work, walking to Pier 39 and then back the other direction to Oracle Park to see the Giants take on the Phillies.\u00a0 My totals would have been even higher, but I was dead tired and took an Uber back to the hotel after the game.<\/p>\n<p>6: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2018\/03\/fb4-week-8\/\">3\/18\/2018<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; 23,780 steps<\/p>\n<p>My first day in Las Vegas for the 2017 IBM Think conference, the day&#8217;s totals include gallivanting around town, including a late night trip up to Caesar\u2019s Palace from the MGM Grand to see\u00a0<em>Absinthe<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/boston_1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-14360\" src=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/boston_1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>7: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2018\/10\/fb4-week-39\/\">10\/24\/2018<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; 23,362 steps<\/p>\n<p>My October 2018 trip to Boston to see Angelina for our birthday gives us our next entry.\u00a0 While she was in class, I took tours of Fenway Park and Harvard, before meeting up with her for a late lunch and then heading to the airport for the trip home.<\/p>\n<p>8: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2016\/03\/fb2-week-8\/\">3\/22\/2016<\/a> &#8211; 22,493 steps<\/p>\n<p>My one-time second highest day took place during the ill-fated trip to Disney World in March of 2016. \u00a0The day&#8217;s excursion started at Hollywood Studios before heading over to Epcot Center with Jeff and Val.<\/p>\n<p>9: <a title=\"GlobalFit III: Week 3\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2013\/07\/globalfit-iii-week-3\/\">7\/27\/2013<\/a> &#8211; 20,592 steps<\/p>\n<p>Still my highest total at home in the state of Illinois, the next entry comes thanks to the 2013 BTN 5K and a, for lack of a better word, misunderstanding about where I should be picked up after the race.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/12dec.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-15297\" src=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/12dec-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>10: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2019\/01\/fb4-week-48\/\">12\/29\/2018<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; 20,374 steps<\/p>\n<p>We wrap up the top 10 with 2018&#8217;s trip to California and the trip to Disneyland to see Danny perform with the Lincoln-Way Marching Band.<\/p>\n<p>11: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2017\/08\/fitbit-iii-week-27\/\">8\/5\/2017<\/a> &#8211; 20,218 steps<\/p>\n<p>The next entry came in August of 2017 on the first day of my trip to Boston with Danny and Michael.\u00a0 After landing in town, we traipsed to the Science Museum, a breakfast joint, our hotel, and, finally, Fenway Park.<\/p>\n<p>12: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2017\/07\/fitbit-iii-week-24\/\">7\/14\/2017<\/a> &#8211; 20,208 steps<\/p>\n<p>Down to #12 is my 2017 trip to Disney World, a one day journey with Angelina to celebrate her high school graduation.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>13: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2017\/10\/fitbit-iii-week-34\/\">9\/19\/2017<\/a> &#8211; 20,028 steps<\/p>\n<p>My final 20,000 step day had a myriad of activities.\u00a0 First was the latest edition of the Sprint and Stride, followed by a trip to Best Buy with Val to buy a new TV, then off to her apartment to install the new TV, and, finally, Season Ticker Holder Family Night at Wrigley Field.<\/p>\n<p>14: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2017\/11\/fitbit-iii-week-41\/\">11\/11\/2017<\/a> &#8211; 19,590 steps<\/p>\n<p>Our next entry came thanks to 2017&#8217;s fall trip to California to see Angelina skate.\u00a0 This day was spent in Anaheim at Disneyland.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/garbage_boston.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-13967\" src=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/garbage_boston-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>15: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2018\/10\/fb4-week-39\/\">10\/23\/2018<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; 19,312 steps<\/p>\n<p>Another entry from 2018&#8217;s trip to Boston to see Angelina for our birthday, which included a Garbage concert for good measure.<\/p>\n<p>16: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2016\/06\/fb2-week-18\/\">6\/2\/2016<\/a> &#8211; 18,725 steps<\/p>\n<p>Day #16 comes from June 2016&#8217;s trip to Universal Studios. \u00a0Our first full day at the park, we split the day between Universal and Islands of Adventure, taking in all of the different Harry Potter options.<\/p>\n<p>17: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2016\/06\/fb2-week-18\/\">6\/4\/2016<\/a> &#8211; 18,617 steps<\/p>\n<p>Our next entry is also from the June 2016 trip to Universal Studios. \u00a0The day included another trip to Islands of Adventure, and would have ended up even higher but for an afternoon trip to the hotel pool.<\/p>\n<p>18: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2017\/06\/fitbit-iii-week-21\/\">6\/21\/2017<\/a> &#8211; 18,290 steps<\/p>\n<p>My 3rd highest day in the state of Illinois was a normal day of work followed by a walk to and from the local neighborhood Starbucks.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/oddball_lineup.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-8737 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/oddball_lineup-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>19:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2015\/09\/fitbit-week-32\/\">9\/6\/2015<\/a> &#8211; 18,259 steps<\/p>\n<p>My now-nineteenth highest total comes courtesy of my trip to Toronto in September 2015. \u00a0This Sunday consisted of traversing around Toronto, with trips to\u00a0Royal Ontario Museum and, at night, the Molson Canadian Ampitheatre for the Oddball Comedy Fest.<\/p>\n<p>20:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2018\/09\/fb4-week-33\/\">9\/9\/2018<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; 18,043 steps<\/p>\n<p>My trip to Belfast in September 2018 provided my next entry.\u00a0 Aside from travelling through the airport, the day also included a trip to Castle Ward to see some <em>Game of Thrones<\/em> sights.<\/p>\n<p>21:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2015\/09\/fitbit-week-32\/\">9\/11\/2015<\/a> &#8211; 17,889 steps<\/p>\n<p>The next best total occurred during my trip to Toronto. \u00a0My last day in the city was spent at\u00a0the Eaton Centre mall, the Hockey Hall of Fame, and a few other stops.<\/p>\n<p>22: <a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 48\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/gfy2-week-48\/\">6\/8\/2013<\/a> &#8211; 17,852 steps<\/p>\n<p>2013&#8217;s trip to Disney World is our next entry, this time for a day split between Animal Kingdom in the morning and Hollywood Studios in the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>23: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2016\/06\/fb2-week-18\/\">6\/1\/2016<\/a> &#8211; 17,243 steps<\/p>\n<p>Our next entry comes courtesy of 2016&#8217;s trip to Universal. \u00a0This first day of the trip started in Chicago at O&#8217;Hare and took us to the Hard Rock Hotel for check-in and a round of mini-golf at City Walk before taking a quick trip in the afternoon to Islands of Adventure to reacquaint ourselves with the original Harry Potter attractions.<\/p>\n<p>24: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2019\/01\/fb4-week-48\/\">12\/28\/2018<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; 17,213 steps<\/p>\n<p>The 2018 New Year&#8217;s trip to California provides our next entry.\u00a0 This, our first day, consisted of a walk down Hollywood Blvd. to take in the Walk of Fame.<\/p>\n<p>25: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2019\/02\/fitbit-v-week-2\/\">2\/7\/2019<\/a> &#8211;
