{"id":17965,"date":"2021-12-31T01:53:18","date_gmt":"2021-12-31T07:53:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/?p=17965"},"modified":"2021-12-30T16:08:39","modified_gmt":"2021-12-30T22:08:39","slug":"2021-the-year-in-books","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2021\/12\/2021-the-year-in-books\/","title":{"rendered":"2021: The Year In Books"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/2021books.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18481\" src=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/2021books.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"842\" height=\"1418\" srcset=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/2021books.jpg 842w, http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/2021books-178x300.jpg 178w, http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/2021books-768x1293.jpg 768w, http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/2021books-608x1024.jpg 608w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 842px) 100vw, 842px\" \/><\/a>As we wrap up 2021, my first full year remote working, I managed to read a whopping 54 books, an increase of 31 books over last year and my first year completing the 52 books in 52 weeks <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2021\/01\/52-books-in-52-weeks-2021-edition\/\">challenge<\/a>.\u00a0 I surpassed last year&#8217;s total in mid-June, passed my best years, <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2015\/12\/2015-the-year-in-books\/\">2015<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2016\/12\/2016-the-year-in-books\/\">2016<\/a>, in late August, and completed book 52 with two weeks left in the year.\u00a0 I read (or listened) to 18,670 pages, by far my highest total of all time and only the second time I&#8217;ve passed 10,000.<\/p>\n<p>Of those books, 16 were non-fiction and, of the 36 novels, 10 were tied to a TV show, either as the source material or as a tie-in.\u00a0 None of the books came out of my dwindling \u201cto-read\u201d drawer, with 43 e-books and 4 audiobooks.\u00a0 For the first time since I was a kid, I got myself a library card, which helped me procure 14 of the books.<\/p>\n<p>Just less than half of the books I read this year were by authors I have read before.
