{"id":12900,"date":"2017-09-21T08:23:58","date_gmt":"2017-09-21T14:23:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/?p=12900"},"modified":"2017-09-20T18:45:51","modified_gmt":"2017-09-21T00:45:51","slug":"kind-of-sprinted-and-strode-once-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2017\/09\/kind-of-sprinted-and-strode-once-again\/","title":{"rendered":"Kind Of Sprinted And Strode Once Again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2016\/08\/sprinting-and-striding-yet-again\/spandst\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-10689\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-10689\" src=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/spandst.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"519\" height=\"182\" srcset=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/spandst.jpg 519w, http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/spandst-300x105.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 519px) 100vw, 519px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Tuesday,\u00a0Allstate held their annual Sprint and Stride event, a 5K race around campus, which this year would benefit the Purple Purse project to help victims of domestic violence. \u00a0I signed up again this year, my fourth, along with some co-workers to get out in the afternoon sun and enjoy getting paid to exercise.<\/p>\n<p>After last year&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2016\/09\/kind-of-sprinted-and-strode-yet-again\/\">fiasco<\/a>, I had high hopes of actually finishing the race this year. \u00a0Once again, that wasn&#8217;t in the cards. \u00a0For the second year in a row, we arrived at the starting gate well after the big throng of people had been sent on their way. \u00a0We did make it further than last year, but when the decision came to turn right and do the full 3.1 miles or turn left and cut things short, the majority voted for left. \u00a0After making it to the finish line, we were able to cash in on the free water and bananas. \u00a0Ironically, this was the first year that I managed to make the official listings, with an abbreviated time of 56:15.30, which was somehow the worst time of the three of us.<\/p>\n<p>Last year&#8217;s race was near the beginning of what would turn out to be a year of shit. \u00a0A year later, things aren&#8217;t necessarily any better. \u00a0That said, I&#8217;m sure I&#8217;ll be out there next year, hopefully with some of the same companions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tuesday,\u00a0Allstate held their annual Sprint and Stride event, a 5K race around campus, which this year would benefit the Purple Purse project to help victims of domestic violence. \u00a0I signed up again this year, my fourth, along with some co-workers to get out in the afternoon sun and enjoy getting paid to exercise.
