{"id":11456,"date":"2017-02-10T09:12:35","date_gmt":"2017-02-10T15:12:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/?p=11456"},"modified":"2017-01-29T14:32:16","modified_gmt":"2017-01-29T20:32:16","slug":"the-still-growing-10000-step-club","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2017\/02\/the-still-growing-10000-step-club\/","title":{"rendered":"The Still Growing 10,000 Step Club"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2016\/02\/the-ever-growing-10000-step-club\/\">year<\/a>, as I was finishing my first year with a Fitbit, I took my last look at the top 20 step days I&#8217;ve had since I first started tracking my steps way back in <a title=\"Global Fit Week 1\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2011\/07\/global-fit-week-1\/\">July of 2011<\/a>. \u00a0At the time, I had only surpassed the 10,000 step plateau 81 times. \u00a0In the past year, I have managed to add an additional 35 occurrences, raising the total to 116. \u00a0With my second year using the Fitbit coming to an end last week, I thought it would be appropriate to take a new look at my now\u00a0top 25 step days over the past 5 1\/2 years, featuring 12 new entries.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/btn10K-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5851\" src=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/btn10K-4.jpg\" alt=\"btn10K-4\" width=\"389\" height=\"257\" srcset=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/btn10K-4.jpg 389w, http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/btn10K-4-300x198.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 389px) 100vw, 389px\" \/><\/a>1: <a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 48\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/gfy2-week-48\/\">6\/6\/2013<\/a> &#8211; 24,988 steps<\/p>\n<p>My best single day total continues to be from my 2013\u00a0trip to Disney World. \u00a0The day&#8217;s excursion to both Epcot Center and the Magic Kingdom ended up with a total of approximately 12.5 miles. \u00a0And yes, it still\u00a0bothers me that I didn&#8217;t get those 12 additional steps to reach 25,000.<\/p>\n<p>2: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2016\/03\/fb2-week-8\/\">3\/22\/2016<\/a> &#8211; 22,493 steps<\/p>\n<p>My first new entry shares much in common with my #1 day, taking place in Disney World last March. \u00a0The day&#8217;s excursion started at Hollywood Studios before heading over to Epcot Center with Jeff and Val.<\/p>\n<p>3: <a title=\"GlobalFit III: Week 3\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2013\/07\/globalfit-iii-week-3\/\">7\/27\/2013<\/a> &#8211; 20,592 steps<\/p>\n<p>My now third highest total came nearly 2 months after my highest, thanks to the BTN 5K and a, for lack of a better word, misunderstanding about where I should be picked up after the race. \u00a0These 3 days are the sum total of my days over 20,000 steps.<\/p>\n<p>4: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2016\/06\/fb2-week-18\/\">6\/2\/2016<\/a> &#8211; 18,725 steps<\/p>\n<p>The second new entry comes from last June&#8217;s trip to Universal Studios. \u00a0Our first full day at the park, we split the day between Universal and Islands of Adventure, taking in all of the different Harry Potter options.<\/p>\n<p>5: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2016\/06\/fb2-week-18\/\">6\/4\/2016<\/a> &#8211; 18,617 steps<\/p>\n<p>The third new entry rounds up the top 5 with another entry from last June&#8217;s trip to Universal Studios. \u00a0The day included another trip to Islands of Adventure, and would have ended up even higher but for an afternoon trip to the hotel pool.<\/p>\n<p>6:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2015\/09\/fitbit-week-32\/\">9\/6\/2015<\/a> &#8211; 18,259 steps<\/p>\n<p>Down three slots from last year, my now-sixth highest total comes courtesy of my trip to Toronto in September 2015. \u00a0This Sunday consisted of traversing around Toronto, with trips to\u00a0Royal Ontario Museum and, at night, the Molson Canadian Ampitheatre for the Oddball Comedy Fest.<\/p>\n<p>7:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2015\/09\/fitbit-week-32\/\">9\/11\/2015<\/a> &#8211; 17,889 steps<\/p>\n<p>My seventh best total also occurred during my trip to Toronto. \u00a0My last day in the city was spent at\u00a0the Eaton Centre mall, the Hockey Hall of Fame, and a few other stops.<\/p>\n<p>8: <a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 48\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/gfy2-week-48\/\">6\/8\/2013<\/a> &#8211; 17,852 steps<\/p>\n<p>My now-eighth highest output brings us back to Disney World in 2013, this time for a day split between Animal Kingdom in the morning and Hollywood Studios in the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>9: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2016\/06\/fb2-week-18\/\">6\/1\/2016<\/a> &#8211; 17,243 steps<\/p>\n<p>My fourth new entry again comes courtesy of last summer&#8217;s trip to Universal. \u00a0This first day of the trip started in Chicago at O&#8217;Hare and took us to the Hard Rock Hotel for check-in and a round of mini-golf at City Walk before taking a quick trip in the afternoon to Islands of Adventure to reacquaint ourselves with the original Harry Potter attractions.<\/p>\n<p>10: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2016\/06\/fb2-week-19\/\">6\/5\/2016<\/a> &#8211; 16,317 steps<\/p>\n<p>We round out the top 10 with my fifth new entry, which again took place last summer at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, where we tried to take in all of the non-Harry Potter attractions.<\/p>\n<p>11: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2015\/09\/fitbit-week-31\/\">9\/5\/2015<\/a> &#8211; 16,083 steps<\/p>\n<p>We head back to Toronto for my eleventh highest day, my first full day in the city. \u00a0There was exploring along the riverfront and, of course, a trip to Rogers Centre for a Blue Jays game.<\/p>\n<p>12: <a title=\"GF4 \u2013 Week 12\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2014\/10\/gf4-week-12\/\">9\/23\/2014<\/a> &#8211; 15,728 steps<\/p>\n<p>This total was accomplished thanks to the 2014 Sprint &amp; Stride 5K race that was held at work.<\/p>\n<p>13: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2016\/04\/fb2-week-11\/\">4\/11\/2016<\/a> &#8211; 15,597 steps<\/p>\n<p>My sixth new entry took place last April, where an exciting day of work was followed by a trip to Wrigley Field for Opening Day festivities.<\/p>\n<p>14: <a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 10\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2012\/09\/gfy2-week-10\/\">9\/9\/2012<\/a> &#8211; 14,957 steps<\/p>\n<p>My now-fourteenth highest total comes thanks to a Sunday in Belfast spent walking from our hotel, down to the Titanic museum, and then back again.<\/p>\n<p>15:\u00a0<a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 48\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2013\/06\/gfy2-week-48\/\">6\/7\/2013<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; 14,940 steps<\/p>\n<p>Another day of 2013&#8217;s vacation to Disney World, this day started with a morning trip to the hotel pool, followed by an abbreviated day at the Magic Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>16: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2015\/07\/fitbit-week-23\/\">7\/6\/2015<\/a> &#8211; 14,926 steps<\/p>\n<p>This total was a combination of work followed by a trip down to US Cellular Field to see the pitching duel between Chris Sale and Mark Buehrle.<\/p>\n<p>17: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2016\/09\/fb2-week-33\/\">9\/13\/2016<\/a> &#8211; 14,858 steps<\/p>\n<p>Last year&#8217;s Sprint and Stride is responsible for my seventh new entry, despite not finishing the event for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>18: <a title=\"GFY2 \u2013 Week 3\" href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2012\/07\/gfy2-week-3\/\">7\/28\/2012<\/a> &#8211; 14,668 steps<\/p>\n<p>The inaugural BTN 5K places about 6,000 steps below the one from a year later. \u00a0This one involved less confusion and more driving.<\/p>\n<p>19: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2016\/05\/fb2-week-14\/\">5\/4\/2016<\/a> &#8211; 14,186 steps<\/p>\n<p>My eighth new entry was a combination of a day of work followed by a trip to US Cellular Field to see the Red Sox take on the White Sox.<\/p>\n<p>20: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2015\/05\/fitbit-week-16\/\">5\/18\/2015<\/a> &#8211; 14,104 steps<\/p>\n<p>Another after work trip down to US Cellular Field to see the White Sox, this time versus the Indians.<\/p>\n<p>21: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2016\/03\/fb2-week-8\/\">3\/23\/2016<\/a> &#8211; 14,001 steps<\/p>\n<p>My ninth new entry comes from last March&#8217;s trip to Florida and a trip to Universal with Jeff, where we stayed for about 30 minutes, followed by yet another trip to the hotel bar back at Disney World.<\/p>\n<p>22: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2015\/09\/fitbit-week-31\/\">9\/7\/2015<\/a> &#8211; 13,970 steps<\/p>\n<p>Back to Canada for this entry, and a trip down to Niagara Falls.<\/p>\n<p>23: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2016\/06\/fb2-week-21\/\">6\/23\/2016<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; 13,776 steps<\/p>\n<p>My tenth new entry was Hayley&#8217;s first day in Chicago this summer. \u00a0Val and I went down to the airport to meet her, and then, after work, headed downtown to show her how to find the Merchandise Mart and to grab some dinner.<\/p>\n<p>24: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2016\/03\/fb2-week-8\/\">3\/24\/2016<\/a> &#8211; 13,741 steps<\/p>\n<p>My eleventh new entry comes from the final day of last spring&#8217;s trip to Florida, where we took a final trip to Hollywood Studios before Jeff dropped Val and me off at the Orlando airport for an unplanned flight back home to Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>25: <a href=\"http:\/\/learningturkey.com\/blog\/2016\/07\/fb2-week-23\/\">7\/9\/2016<\/a> &#8211;
